An Ultimate Guide to Psychometric Tests

An Ultimate Guide to Psychometric Tests

Psychometric tests are a standard and scientific approaches used to measure individuals' psychological capabilities and behavioural fashion. Psychometric tests are designed to measure applicants' suitability for a role; based on the required personality characteristics and aptitude (or cognitive skills).

They identify the degree to which applicants' character and cognitive skills match to those required to perform in the position. Employers use the information gathered from the psychometric evaluation to identify the hidden facets of applicants that are hard to extract from a face-to-face interview.

Types of Psychometric Tests

There are 3 essential categories in a psychometric test- aptitude tests, skill tests and Personality Tests.

Aptitude Tests: -

Aptitude tests are pre-employment assessments to verify the general reasoning capabilities of the candidate. Aptitude tests aim to assess a specific or general set of skills, though this often depends on the type of job that you are applying for.

Types of Aptitude Tests: -

Numerical Reasoning.

Verbal Reasoning.

Logical Reasoning.

Problem Solving Ability.

Data Interpretation and Analytical Skills.

Skill Tests: -

Skill tests represent a way for the recruiters to evaluate how quickly a candidate can learn a new skill to effectively carry out the job he/she is applying for.

Depending on the designation you are hoping to secure, the test may include something such as designing a basic web page (if you are applying for a position of the designer). Nowadays, psychometric tests are completed using advanced assessment tools that remove the requirement of the traditional paper-based test.

Personality Tests: -

Personality assessments allow employers to assess your suitability according to your own behaviour and the manner in which you approach your job.

This will be used to determine how well you will fit into the organization and the culture of the business. Your responses will often be cross-checked with those of a top-performing employee or productive supervisor, which is an indication as to whether you share the same characteristics.

Employers then examine this personality type to see whether you would match with their organizational values.

4 Key Aspects Measured Through Psychometric Tests

Positive Personality Traits.

Dark Personality Traits.

Motivation, Value and Preferences.

Cognitive Ability.

Finally,

Personality tests are designed so that they can include several questions measuring an identical personality trait. Hence, consistency in the manner in which you respond to questions is quite important. As with any other evaluation, practising capability tests and getting familiarized with all the personality tests, reduces anxiety and other things which impair your operation.

Keep a serious and concrete mindset throughout the course of your evaluation day. Do not be tempted to feel that our behaviour and responses are considered real only if we answer evaluation questions without preparing. Preparation is critical to ensure that you demonstrate your entire potential. For more information click here.
